When I saw the pic on the left from Yoshinaga-san’chi no Gargoyle, I immediately thought of the skirmishes between Mendou Shuutarou and Moroboshi Ataru from Urusei Yatsura. This might imply that Iyo = Shuutarou, Futaba = Ataru, and Gargoyle = Lum.

The pic on the right is from Busou Renkin, and it seems likely that the creators were inspired by X-Men when naming this holographic simulation room for the alchemic warriors. It’s always neat to see the trading of ideas among different cultures.
While I keep an eye out for references in other anime, try not to stare too hard at the Pic of the Week…
